Research Associate

THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the Senior Research and Evaluation Officer, you will have an unparalleled opportunity to contribute to a fast paced, big-thinking, mission-driven organization. This unique role directly supports and influences the work of one of the nation’s leading health philanthropies.

Your responsibilities will vary and require you to prioritize effectively, act quickly, and maintain confidentiality. You will primarily provide planning, administration, data management, analysis, and reporting support to a variety of projects at the foundation, including the Public Health Workforce Interests and Needs Survey (PH WINS). In addition, the position will support foundation-wide evaluation, strategic planning, and learning activities. You will have substantial opportunities to publish findings in peer reviewed literature.

YOU WILL

  • Support the Senior Research & Evaluation Officer and other program staff in planning and managing a portfolio of charitable projects—monitoring, reviewing submissions, and tracking performance of both grants and contracts
  • Collect data and review metrics to assess the foundation’s strategic plan
  • Participate in editorial reviews of research and evaluation products
  • Support convening key stakeholders to provide input into foundation projects
  • Synthesize and report on stakeholder input
  • Perform literature reviews
  • Program surveys in online survey software (e.g. Qualtrics)
  • Work with stakeholders to recruit health department participation in PH WINS
  • Provide support and quality control for survey data collection, troubleshooting technical obstacles, communicating with respondents including answers to frequently asked questions, and technical assistance as necessary
  • Assist with data cleaning
  • Contribute to quality assurance for all reporting efforts
  • Conduct data analysis using STATA and interpret findings
  • Draft reports and manuscripts for publication
  • Present findings clearly and succinctly, both orally and in writing
  • Take on other roles and special projects as needed to support the program team and enhance the work of the Foundation

REQUIREMENTS

  • Completion of an advanced degree (e.g. MA, MPH) and two years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of public health workforce is a plus
  • A combination of education and experience may be substituted for the education requirements
  • Experience or interest in contributing to survey research studies
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including ability to convey technical concepts to a non-technical audience and to provide excellent customer service
  • Analytical skills, including research and statistical methods. Demonstrated skills in data collection, management, analysis, and reporting
  • Experience using STATA and Tableau strongly preferred
  • Strong project management skills. Demonstrated ability to meet multiple deadlines by maintaining a high level of organization. Able to move quickly from one task to another, prioritizing requests and managing timelines
  • Excellent conceptual, analytic and forward thinking skills
  • Foundation or nonprofit experience preferred, passion for our mission is required
