Founding Member

For almost 30 years, Dr. Cabot practiced clinical surgery in an academic setting, which included teaching and administrative duties, as well as medical and scientific research. He was a member of the Department of Surgery at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, where he also served on the Admissions Committee of Harvard Medical School. In June 2000, Dr. Cabot resigned from his clinical practice in order to serve as a managing director of his family’s office for financial management and philanthropy, Cabot Wellington, LLC. He served on a number of nonprofit boards, including the Handel and Haydn Society, the Cantata Singers, the Committee on University Resources at Harvard, the Boston Museum of Science, the Maine Coast Heritage Trust, the Trustees of Reservations, Sailors for the Sea, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and the Sea Education Association.

On Sept.1, 2012, Dr. Cabot lost his life in a tragic sailing accident. He was traveling on the last leg of a journey that he and his friends had been making for the previous seven summers, which brought them from Nova Scotia to Greenland, Iceland, Scotland, and the coast of Norway. It is with great sadness and heartfelt sympathy for his family that that we honor his years of service to the Foundation.
