Mr. Burnes was a co-founder of Charles River Ventures in 1970 and has played a major role in the firm’s development into one of the country’s major venture firms. He is currently a director of Cayman Systems, Concord Communications, InteQ, Passport Corp., Taqua Systems, SpeechWorks, and Voter.com. In recent years, Mr. Burnes has focused on investments in the fields of communications and information services. Apart from venture capital, Mr. Burnes has been active in community organizations. Currently he is a trustee of Boston’s nationally recognized Science Museum and vice chairman of Sea Education Association. Mr. Burnes holds a BA in history from Harvard College and an MBA from Boston University.
